HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF FICHE TOWN

Before 2005 E.C
Before 2005 E.C
According to Tullama tradition and other related evidences the region commonly called Salale is inhabited by various Tullama Oromo groups since time immemorial. Most of the Oromo groups inhabiting the region believed to have been belonged to the "Torban Obo" group that in turn belong to the three main branches of Tullama i.e Dacci, the remaining being Bacho and Jille. However, various Oromo groups including Gumbuchu, Gullale, Yayya, Obori, Iggu-Abbu, Saggo, Jarso, Abbichu, Jirru, Jama, Jidda, Jille, Metta, Mogor etc widely inhabit Salale .

Before the nineteenth century, the relations between the Oromo of Salale and the Showan Amhara in the north seem to have been on equal position. There had been peaceful relation as there were also war and confrontation However, the situation gradually changed and the Showan Amhara kings began to gain an upper hand as they began to acquire fire arms through the trade-route that crossed their territory. Above all, since the reign of king Saile Sellassie  the Shoan Kingdom military strength continuously increased and the kings acquired more and more fire arms as they also established contacts with foreigners
While the Shoan Amhara kingdom expansion towards the Tullama land in general and Salale in particular was being enhanced by the political and economic developments the Salale Oromo was under socio-economic transformation. The Gada system gradually came under pressure and unable to check the ambitious war lords. This political instability also led to war among different Oromo tribes. The Amhara kings territorial expansion was, thus, facilitated by the conflicts among the Oromo groups.

The shown kings expansion towards the Tullama land was, for the time being, checked during the reigin of Emperor Tewdrose . King Haile Melokot Saile Sellassie  died before the Showans were defeated by the Emperor and his son Menelik, was taken to Magdala, where he stayed with Emperor Tewodrose until 1965. Strong attempt towards the control of Salale during the 1950s and 1960s was made by another son of Saile Sellassie, Abeto Saifu. Saifu went upto temporarily controlling Fiche area and establishing his defense around the area.
