URBAN PHYSICAL
STUDY OF FICHE
Physical Characteristics of
Fiche Town
Location
Fiche is the zonal capital of North Shewa zone
and Girar Jarso district of
Oromia National Regional state. It is found at
a distance of 115 kms from Finfinne on the way to Gojam. The town is surrounded by the peasant
associations of Addisge in the north, Torban Ashe in the west, Dire Doyyo and
Torban Ashe in the South and Koticha Gobola (Sefane) and Wertu Silase in
the East. In absolute terms the town
extends from 9044’50’’N-9048’42’’N, 38042’35’’E-380-46’50’’E.
Area and shape
The
planning area of the town is 3,325.1
hectares. The total area of the circumscribing circle about the planning area
of the town is 5720.5 hectares. When one
compare the shape of the town in the planning period with perfect circle
(completely compact) it could be understood that the town has to expand to the
south west direction in the future. This direction has suitable topography for
future expansion. As a result, any activity that minimizes the potential of
this expansion area such as waste disposal should be controlled by the
concerned bodies. Besides, it is
necessary to activate the south western part of the town by establishing growth
centers like mini markets and sub centers for the residents of the area and its
vicinity. This can maintain equity of development in the south western, north eastern
and central parts of fiche town. Refer
to the plate below that shows shape and area of Fiche.
On
the other hand the north eastern part of the town has steeper slope that it
cannot be used for future expansion. In order to increase the potential of this
area quarrying should be under taken in this part of the town. If this is to be
done in the future, Fiche can get its raw materials for construction activities
to be under taken in the town.
